Flu Information
The 2011-2012 Flu Season (Website updated 2/20/2012)
Seasonal Flu historically peaks in February and March so vaccination is offered and recommended throughout the season and well into the spring. A flu vaccine is recommended every year because the virus is constantly changing and new vaccines are developed annually to protect against new circulating strains. This recommendation is the same even during years when the vaccine composition (the viruses the vaccine protects against) remains unchanged from the previous season.
IHA will provide up-to-date information on this site regarding flu clinics when either vaccine is available. To view our list of clinics, please visit our flu vaccine calendar.
Also, we recommend you take these simple everyday actions to stay healthy:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to decrease spreading germs.
- CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with other to keep from infecting them. For home care instructions click http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/guidance_homecare_directions.htm or contact your physician office for further assistance.
