Bone densitometry is used most often to diagnose osteoporosis, a condition that often affects women after menopause but may also be found in men. Osteoporosis involves a gradual loss of calcium, causing the bones to become thinner, more fragile and more likely to break. The bone density test can also assess your risk for developing fractures. Bone densitometry identifies bone loss at the major fracture sites (i.e. femur and spine) in just minutes. Along with the standard sites, they also offer: dual femur measurement to assess the average density of both femurs for confident patient management and total body measures both bone density and body fat assessment. Hence, bone desitometry is an excellent tool to assess weight loss therapies, endocrine/growth disorders, pediatric and patients with secondary osteoporosis. What is X-ray? The X-ray beam, generated in a series of complex physical interactions within an X-ray tube, is focused and directed on to the area of interest. Depending upon the intervening tissues properties, a characteristic pattern of X-rays is transmitted through the imaged part onto the underlying film. This film is then processed to produce the well-known X-ray image. For more information about the services we offer please contact our office.
