Bariatric Surgery

What is Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric surgery helps people lose weight by surgically restricting the amount of food a person can eat or changing the way a person can absorb nutrients. This type of surgery is performed if other methods, such as diet and exercise, are unsuccessful. Bariatric surgery is for people who are severely obese or are obese with other obesity-related complicating factors such as sleep apnea or diabetes. Bariatric surgeons have completed additional fellowship training in bariatric and minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures. IHA's bariatric surgeons see patients at the Michigan Bariatric Institute.
